A cost-effective combined advanced therapy to treat knee osteoarthritis

SINPAIN @ European Researchers Night 2025

On 26 September 2025, Europe celebrated science with the European Researchers Night. Every year, universities and research institutions open their doors to the public and allow a glimpse into their work, making complex science approachable and enjoyable.

Once again, two SINPAIN institutions participated in the event!

The Institute of Biomedical and Neural Engineering (IBNE) of Reykjavik University presented their vast variety of activities in projects. For SINPAIN, they had a poster with some radiomics results, previously presented at a conference, and an interactive activity for kids and families: “Er þetta gott hné?/Is this a good knee?”. In this game, participants explored 3D visualizations of knee joints, showing bones and cartilage, and tried to guess whether each case represented a healthy knee or one affected by degeneration.

At i3S, the Neuro Skeletal Circuits Group led the activity "Bioengineering the Future in Osteoarthritis Treatment - The Power of RNA Technology", sharing the SINPAIN project with the community. This included hands-on experiments and fun activities showing the group’s work in the lab.

The European Researchers Night at both institutions was a great success with attracting visitors well beyond expectations!
