A cost-effective combined advanced therapy to treat knee osteoarthritis

SINPAIN 2nd Progress Meeting – Keeping joints healthy

On 23-24 May 2023 the SINPAIN consortium gathered for their 2nd Progress Meeting which was kindly hosted by University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO) in Novara, Italy.

With one year into the project, all of our Work Packages are active and the interplay between them gets increasingly important. At this stage it all centers around Work Package 3 in which we analyse the main cell populations expressing IL1, and NGF in OA joint tissues to unveil gender-related discriminants, immunomics and innervation profiles in OA joint tissues relationship. This WP also aims to understand the role of pericytes at successive stages of OA development, evaluate immunotoxicity, silencing efficacy and bioactivity of nanoformulations/nanotherapeutics in addition to developing and validating relevant 3D models of early and late OA.
Consequently, all partners involved in this Work Package and all others feeding into it from other Work Packages got very engaged in discussions which continued in the coffee and lunch breaks.

Another important topic concentrated on considering the regulatory pathway of the proposed nanotherapeutics and to take preparations for the clinically relevant in vivo OA model to demonstrate in vivo biocompatibility of the advanced nanotherapeutic.

In the afternoon, Annalisa Chiocchetti and her team organised a trip to Turin and a bicycle tour. Besides this being a lot of fun, doing research on osteoarthritis makes us very aware of the necessity to keep our joints healthy. Whatch our short video to get an impression! Overall, the good weather, excellent food and trustful relationship among the partners contributed to a truly productive meeting. Thank you, Annalisa and the UPO team!
