The benefits of collaborative research – Interview with Paolo Gargiulo
Already last autumn, Rannis, the Icelandic Centre for Research, invited Paolo Gargiulo from Reykjavik University (RU) to participate in an interview. With this initiative, Rannis aims to showcase successful Icelandic stories in European research and innovation. Due to the significant impact of the SINPAIN project, Paolo was asked to share his insights into the project's objectives and the journey that led to its achievements.
It all started off with RU’s participation in COST Actions where it soon became clear that RU offers a unique expertise with their imaging work that contributes to evaluate the new matrix for cartilage degeneration. From COST Actions, it was only a small step to participating in SINPAIN, a collaborative project funded under Horizon Europe. In SINPAIN, RU contributes with collecting and assessing different parameters that illustrate cartilage tissues, eventually developing a patient-specific multiscale model capable to accurately describe cartilage and bone conditions.
Paolo also shares his experience when it comes to working in a European collaborative project: “Participating in a European project is a challenge but it gives an immediate benefit”. While partners combine their knowledge working together in a multidisciplinary environment, they also measure their work against the other partners’ work. A true incentive to get a little better every day.
The video of the interview is now available on Youtube.
